Wow! Crazy! I have 100 views from people in The States alone, with more from other countries. Why I am exited about this? Because I’m not sure if people from other countries can read what I am writing, and they only come across my blog because I tag “Obama” and popular songs in my posts, and I am sure that people from America can read it. Oh well. Even though I am not too crazy about America, thanks for reading!
New Things

There are a lot of new things in 2010. New year, new decade, new season of your favorite T.V shows, new episodes of my favorite radio shows (yes, radio is still around and cooler than ever), so why not try doing something new yourself? Reinvent some way in which you live your life, however minuscule it may be. That is all.

The Never Ending Battle

I am a painter by heritage (coming from a long line of Italian painters) and I like to carry on the tradition. I also use the very traditional medium of oil paints. But very recently I have had to use acrylics (due to school and financial reasons), which before I never would have touched. I felt I was a sort of purist, if you will, by only using oil paints, which I felt were far superior. But after having dabbled in acrylics, I realized that they are not different in their quality, but rather how they paint. They are both very good in different ways.
Oil paints are a mixture of pigment suspended in linseed oil, they tend to be very thick, they take days to dry and can only be diluted by a turpentine, a very toxic liquid that is also very flammable. Whereas acrylic paints are a mixture of pigment in an acrylic polymer (plastic) which can be diluted with water, they tend to take a few minutes to dry.
So, on one hand, Oils are very handy because they stay wet for days, but they are much more expensive and toxic. Acrylics dry very quickly and are not toxic, and are very very very cheap. They both have their ups and downs, and they both paint differently. Personally, I still prefer oil paints, but that is my opinion, give me yours in the comments.

This Week’s Track.
November 22nd, 2009 · 4 Comments · Uncategorized
Starting this week I will post a new track weekly. It has no real importance, it is only a track I like and I would like for you to hear. So! This week’s track is “Black Math” by The White Stripes. I like it because it is a very powerful guitar driven song that doesn’t over do it. I also very very very much like Jack White’s lyrics in this song, very witty, very caustic when it starts talking about education. It also doesn’t get enough recognition because it appears right after “Seven Nation Army”, which overshadows it as their most popular song. Unfortunately my blog will not let me upload the song, so check it out here instead.

Old News, but Still Important News.

Pitchfork media gave out their top 200 albums of the first decade of the 2000′s a few weeks ago. Yes, this is old news, but I realized that I did not write anything about the number one album on this list. What is the number one album you say? Why none other than Radiohead‘s millennial masterpiece Kid A. Probably one of the greatest works of art in the past couple centuries and most likely for more to come, it went platinum the first week it came out. I can not stress enough how amazing this album truly is. Go to wherever you buy music and get the whole album. Now. Do it right now. Ok? Got it? Good.
Oh, also, I accidental found this jewel of an artist online named Jace Wallace, and as it happens he lives about 15 minutes from my house. Small world, right?

Freedom of Expression

One thing you can always count on is people telling you that some form of art is not art at all. One example that I love to bring up is Graffiti. The merit of graffiti has been questioned countless times over the course of it’s history, and today it is being challenged as anti-American.
One notable figure of graffiti’s history (no, not Banksy) is a man who goes by the street name of Saber. Saber works out of Los Angeles and is known for creating the largest piece of graffiti in the world ( it is the size of a football field) in 1997. His work is can be seen along the LA river, but that is soon to be history.
The LA river has long been a popular graffiti spot, one of the largest in the world, and years after it has first started to be written on the local government has just started to clean it all up. My first question is where di dthey find the 3.1 million dollars needed for a graffiti cleanup in the middle of an economic recession? I would think that the money could go to better things other than destroying art, but then again when has the government cared about art to begin with?
One more example that I must touch up on is Obama’s outreach for comercials for health care reform. The administration had a contest to see who could make the most informative and interesting commercial stressing the need for health care reform, and our dear friend Saber decided to join in on the fun. His video actually made it to the top 20 videos submitted, and now his video and the panel of judges are being labeled as anti-American. His video is a sped up clip of him painting an American flag on a wall and him scrawling reasons why health care reform is needed multiple times over the flag with black spray paint, and in the end the flag looks as dirty and messed up as the current state of the nations health care. I personally do not think that this is at all an Anti-American act, on the contrary I see it as a work of art that is pushing for reform for our currently messed up health care system. But that is my opinion, if you have a different opinion or would like to add to what I have said, please leave a comment.
